Senior Vice President, Internal Communications

The San Francisco office of Fleishman-Hillard has an immediate opening for a Senior Vice President with a deep background in employee communications and change management to join our growth-oriented corporate reputation practice. This is an exciting career opportunity for an experienced communications counselor to join a dynamic group doing innovative work for one of Fleishman-Hillard’s largest international clients.
The San Francisco office is one of the top five offices in the FH network. Responsibilities:
- The Senior Vice President will assume responsibility in developing and executing internal communications programs that embrace all areas of leadership and employee communications, with overall responsibility for account planning and supervision.
- As a strategic counselor, the Senior Vice President will support clients facing a variety of internal organizational needs, including change management, employee engagement, benefits communications, values-based communications, internal branding, product support, mergers and acquisitions and reorganizations.
- In addition to developing and managing budgets and business plans, the Senior Vice President will generate incremental business opportunities with our existing clients, and act as an internal communications expert in pursuing new business opportunities.
- The SVP will serve as a senior strategic counselor to client contacts in key communications disciplines including corporate communications (crisis, executive communications, legal/financial) as well as brand/product communications. He/she will also connect and manage internal agency resources for specialized tasks such as measurement, design and specialized counsel.
- The individual will understand the dynamics of teamwork and will support a high-functioning group of talented individuals throughout the firm. He/she will provide clear direction and establish achievable goals for the team, and will actively direct them as needed to ensure their success.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in employee and/or internal communications in an agency or corporate setting is required
- The ideal candidate must have the ability to provide strategic counsel and leadership to influence and impact client strategy. In addition, candidate should have experience building relationships and working with diverse stakeholders effectively.
- The successful candidate will have experience in structuring, leading and motivating teams that include individuals of wide-ranging backgrounds, areas of responsibility and experiences. He or she will work closely with the San Francisco senior leadership team that shares accountability for managing the office.
- All executives at FH take a hands-on role in serving clients and managing or contributing to client work at multiple levels of engagement. The SVP will have executive presence and will be able to inspire the confidence of current and future clients. He or she will have a track record of winning and servicing lifestyle, entertainment and/or gaming companies at the product and corporate levels. Experience with publicly traded companies is a plus.
- It is essential the successful candidate have experience in developing and generating support for strategic, comprehensive communications plans that apply creative tactics and use a variety of communications channels, including digital, print publications and brochures, executive memos, face-to-face meeting scripts/talking points, special events, video, and FAQs.
- In addition, it is preferred that the successful candidate have experience in marketing communications and other aspects of corporate communication such as crisis management, media relations, corporate branding, and executive positioning.
- Strong communications skills are essential. He or she must be an excellent writer and editor who will have the ability to clarify and simplify complicated issues and technical subject matter alongside understanding the versatility in tone and technique depending on the author and/or audience. Knowledge of AP style is a must.
- She/he will be an energetic, self-starter and resourceful problem solver that will get things moving and keep them on track as well as having a high attention to detail.
- The SVP must have the ability to lead programs and manage others to deliver high quality thinking and deliverables quickly and within tight timetables.
- The individual will understand that putting the client’s interest first will engender long-term partnerships and business success. The successful candidate will be able to illustrate a results-focused approach and commitment to going the extra mile for clients.

- The successful candidate will exemplify outstanding interpersonal skills in situations ranging from working effectively in a team environment to negotiating corporate approvals diplomatically.
- The successful candidate will be able to manage multiple ongoing activities and maintain composure and production quality under deadline pressure.
- Preferably, he/ she will have a Bachelor’s degree in communications, English or psychology. A master’s degree in organizational psychology or organizational behavior is a plus.
