Consumers’ Expectations and the Future of the European Food Industry

What are the current challenges faced by the agro-food industry? And do these mirror the concerns and expectations of consumers? This roundtable discussion – featuring Ladislav Miko, deputy director for the Food Chain at DG SANCO – will look at key highlights from recent research conducted among expert consumers from Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK on their expectations from the food industry.

Moderated by FleishmanHillard’s Nick Andrews, the discussion will look at the research from an EU policy perspective. It will focus on the ways the EU – and DG SANCO in particular – are supporting the food industry to meet consumers’ expectations in the areas of transparent production methods, sustainable sourcing and production, and the development of innovative food products. In addition, Miko will explain how the European Commission’s current and future initiatives will support the industry to meet these expectations.
