What Happened: This month, Instagram introduced its latest feature to its ever-growing community of 400 million monthly users. The social app created the account @instagramforbusiness and has garnered over 20,000 followers as of October 19. Instagram intends to showcase brands, small businesses and creative agencies and share their Instagram success story through a video and lengthy caption. The account has already featured Ben and Jerry’s for the big brand category and Flowers for Dreams for the small businesses category. BBDO New York is scheduled to be featured and represent the creative agency category.
What This Means for Brands: Instagram has slowly rolled out advertising opportunities for brands, but this latest feature is a win for brands and other users. It’s not another ad clogging up someone’s scrolling feed. This is Instagram’s way of thanking and congratulating the brands, businesses and agencies that excel at visual storytelling on the app. @instagramforbusiness aligns with the app’s strongest trait: community building. Brands and businesses that understand and embrace the community aspect are the accounts that succeed on Instagram – and in turn, are the brands that will be rewarded by a post on @instagramforbusiness.
