April 1, 2015

As chatter around SXSW 2015 wraps up for the year, we’re looking back at the top insights that emerged at this year’s festival, how they can help your brand stay at the forefront of cutting edge technology and trends, and the stars of SXSW that are already shaping the future.

While in Austin, our StoryConnect@Omnicom content newsroom, powered by Resolution Media, FleishmanHillard and Annalect’s data intelligence suite, gave us an always-on, data-driven and socially-enabled look into the top news, emerging trends and biggest surprises at the festival while we made big data small.

Each day, working with our Omnicom partners, we curated, monitored, amplified and optimized content around one of five topics – gaming, food, start-ups, music and sports, and healthcare – to help change the way both attendees and non-attendees experienced the energy, excitement and innovation of an event of SXSW’s magnitude.

Though overall social media impressions decreased this year in comparison to 2014, overall social conversation was, unsurprisingly, huge throughout the week with a total of over 1.1 million mentions and 13.4 billion potential impressions. The drastic increase in 2015 as compared to previous years indicates that the size and significance of the festival is only continuing to grow for people around the world.

From Meerkat’s explosive growth to Game of Thrones, virtual reality and other cutting edge health, sports and entertainment technology, we expect the people, events and innovations making a big splash at SXSW Interactive this year to have an impact throughout 2015 and beyond. Looking back on our time in Austin, we’re keeping an eye on the future and considering how the ideas and commentary we’ve identified will influencer consumer behavior and future marketing decisions for brands and organizations worldwide.
