Christina is co-chair of OPEN Pride UK + Allies and is the EMEA regional lead for True MOSAIC, our dedicated DE&I team. She speaks passionately about the importance of diversity and inclusion and influencing change within the industry.

How did you first get involved with OPEN Pride UK + Allies network?

I was involved in the creation of the UK chapter of OPEN Pride about four years ago and being a member of the LGBTQ+ community anyway, I had a natural passion to want to support the initiative.

What role does the OPEN Pride UK + Allies network play in promoting diversity and inclusion?

I think we’re at a juncture now where we are seeing a lot of employee resource groups being established across the network and it’s great to see that OPEN Pride can interact with them and share best practice. From a client work perspective, the lived experiences of the OPEN Pride team is really helping to bring inclusion to the centre of the work we do across the network to ensure that the perspectives and experiences of the LGBTQ+ community are not only included but accurately reflected in the work we produce. As comms professionals, we can help to influence change and positively impact communities in ways that are often overlooked in communications.

What has been the response to the work carried out by OPEN Pride?

The work has been well received and is celebrated internally. The OPEN Pride comms challenge is a particular highlight where agencies partner with grassroots LGBTQ+ charities and organisations to create game-changing campaigns during Pride Month and beyond on a pro-bono basis.

From a diversity and inclusion perspective, how much has the client work changed over the years to embrace and celebrate inclusion in all its forms?

We’ve collaborated with many clients on DE&I work over the years and have seen great success but also a need for all work to be viewed through a DE&I lens. To demonstrate our expertise and endeavour to create meaningful work that impacts different communities we established True MOSAIC, which is our global D&I practice. Solidifying this as an offering with a key point of difference is a real game-changer in the industry that has come at an incredibly important time. We are seeing an increased need and expectation for clients to speak up on equity issues, whether that’s the expectations of employees or consumers it is critical for brands and organisations to have a firm foothold on the rapidly changing societal and cultural landscape.

What made you get involved with True MOSAIC?

I’m fascinated by how nuanced DE&I is across the world and what our True MOSAIC team of over 150 people brings to the table is a wealth of lived and professional experience – meaning that we can respond to and support clients on complex DE&I topics. True MOSAIC also affords our teams across the world, the opportunity to learn from one another and understand that DE&I is not one size fits all.

What role does the culture at FleishmanHillard play in promoting diversity and inclusion?

At FleishmanHillard there is such a strong community spirit that transcends our entire network, not least the UK, and it’s the people within our network and the global and local initiatives that help to create a culture of togetherness.

FleishmanHillard affords its people the opportunity to do work that they are passionate about – whether that’s through our FH4Inclusion programme providing pro bono support to brands and organisations or developing specialisms that map to an individual’s interests or passion points.
