RD / Nutrition Communications Specialist - Food, Chicago

If so, FleishmanHillard Chicago, one of the firm’s hubs for food and nutrition communications is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and self-starting communications professional who is an RD and has a background in nutrition and food science communications to join our growing team. You will be engaged immediately as a core team member assisting with communications plans, collateral materials and media outreach for various clients and new business opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Share knowledge and understanding of food industry and issues related to nutrition, labeling, regulatory affairs and marketing
  • Develop and edit high-quality written materials, including media correspondence, client communications, press releases, fact sheets, website and social media marketing copy, and other internal and external communications materials
  • Support the execution of strategic outreach plans to external audiences: consumers, media, third-party organizations, healthcare professionals, nutrition professionals, etc.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the role of digital/social media plays in integrated communications strategies
  • Develop and manage project timelines and corresponding project budgets
  • Show contagious enthusiasm and willingness to jump in and get the work done in a dynamic agency environment
  • Work effectively within a team, demonstrate proactive communication, problem-solving skills
  • Be adaptable and able to change priorities against changing client and team needs

 

Key Qualifications :

  • Registered dietitian (RD), Masters in Nutrition Communications a plus
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience as a registered dietitian or related experience
  • Minimum of 1-3 year agency experience with client-facing experience a plus
  • Registered dietitian (RD), Masters in Nutrition Communications a plus
  • Current member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (registered dietitians or those preparing to become a registered dietitian)
  • Must be adept at interpreting nutrition science data and communicating nutrition/scientific ideas in a way that is understandable to the general consumer and media audience
  • Versatile, persuasive writing skills and experience developing high-quality written materials, including communications plans, client correspondence and media communications, across multiple media, including web, newsletters, media relations and social media
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with a proven track record in messaging and positioning
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and executing results-oriented communications programs and providing high-quality service to demanding clients
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to interact with clients on a day-to-day basis
  • Available to work a full-time schedule
  • Minimal travel for client-related needs may be required
  • Degree in nutrition sciences, dietetics, food science, communications, journalism or marketing required
