Mike Schmidt heads FleishmanHillard’s Public Affairs team in Washington, D.C. A former reporter with nearly 25 years in strategic communications and journalism, he has helped some of the best-known companies successfully manage issues, navigate crises, create partnerships and build reputation to meet business goals. Schmidt brings an understanding of a variety of issues to develop strategies and relationships for clients, and experience working with a range of clients – from small tech start-ups to the largest retailer in the world. He led a global campaign that won PRWeek magazine’s Public Affairs Campaign of the Year.
Before joining FleishmanHillard, Schmidt held senior roles at two agencies and was Director of Communications at Third Way, a Democratic think tank. He entered public affairs after working for a decade as a correspondent and managing editor for the Financial Times Group and what is now S&P Global Platts, covering national and international energy and environmental issues, the U.S. Congress, and the Clinton and Bush 43 administrations.
Schmidt graduated from George Mason University with degrees in English and International Relations.
