JOHANNESBURG, April 21, 2016 — FleishmanHillard has been named Pan-African Agency of the Year at the inaugural African Excellence Awards, hosted by Communication Director. Additionally, the agency won a Gold Award in the Issues and Reputation Management category for work done on behalf of the African Union. The awards celebrate the ground-breaking public relations and communications work taking place across the African continent.  Those honored received their awards at a ceremony in Cape Town on April 21.

FleishmanHillard Names Sharon Piehl General Manager in Johannesburg

JOHANNESBURG, April 13, 2016 – FleishmanHillard announced today that Sharon Piehl has been appointed general manager of FleishmanHillard’s Johannesburg operation, effective May 1, 2016.

“Sharon Piehl brings highly creative and strategic thinking to the Johannesburg team, as well as proven leadership abilities,” said John Saunders, president and CEO of FleishmanHillard. “I am confident that she will maintain the office’s commitment to outstanding client service and the agency’s growth trajectory in the African market.”

Piehl has more than 18 years of experience in the public relations and communications industry. She joined FleishmanHillard in 2011 to lead the office’s brand marketing team, which quadrupled in size under her leadership. Piehl also leads the consumer products and service sector in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. Prior to joining the agency, she held positions at Inzalo Communication and Altech, and has worked with clients in a wide range of industries.

“In the five years that I have been with FleishmanHillard, I have greatly enjoyed watching the Johannesburg office grow in both size and capabilities,” said Piehl. “I look forward to leading this talented team, and building our programs and talent to bring our clients the most cutting-edge and creative communications strategies.”

Vanessa Baard, Jared Carneson and Joanne Theodorides will join Piehl on the management team. Kevin Welman, who has been with FleishmanHillard for over 20 years, steps down after nearly eleven years as general manager of the Johannesburg office. “Kevin has done a fantastic job for us, and we are most grateful for his great service to our firm,” added Saunders.

FleishmanHillard Named to ‘Top Companies for Executive Women’ for Seventh Straight Year, Breaks Into the Top 10

LOUIS, March 1, 2016 – For the seventh consecutive year, FleishmanHillard has been named to the list of “Top Companies for Female Executives” by the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE), and is included as one of the top 10 companies recognized. The list honors organizations that promote corporate cultures that champion the advancement of women to the executive level. Rankings take many factors into account, including access to programs and policies that allow for women’s career advancement, female representation at the profit-and-loss and executive levels, gender pay parity and work-life balance. The full list will appear in an upcoming issue of Working Mother magazine.

St. Louis, Jan. 20, 2016 – Today, FleishmanHillard (FH) named J.J. Carter as the firm’s first Global Chief Operating Officer (COO) and President, Americas. Carter will be responsible for the worldwide business operations of FleishmanHillard and in that capacity, will focus on enhancing the FleishmanHillard experience for its employees, clients, agency partners and with the DAS Group of Companies. Carter joined FleishmanHillard in 2005, and previously served as President of the U.S. East, U.S. West, Canada and Mexico. He has led a variety of key growth areas, including one of the firm’s largest offices in San Francisco and one of the firm’s largest clients, Visa Inc., as global client relationship manager. In 2007, he helped launch the agency’s global sports marketing practice, calling on his experience as the head of communications for professional sports teams and leagues which include director of public relations and digital properties for the international Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP Tour), and director of public relations for the NBA’s Detroit Pistons and Dallas Mavericks. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Carter earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and mass communication with a concentration in public relations.

Transitioning to the role of global President, Business Development and Partnerships is Jack Modzelewski. In this new position, Modzelewski will focus on growing partnerships with clients through relationships at the highest levels to help existing and new clients better address their business and marketplace challenges. He also will focus on relationship engagement with the many organizations with which FH shares both client and strategic business interests.

Modzelewski has served as President, Americas since 2011 and under his leadership, the region has delivered outstanding performance year over year. He facilitated a number of leadership transitions in key markets. Modzelewski also led the expansion of the region, establishing a presence in Brazil and facilitating the partnership with DDC Advocacy. In May 2015, Modzelewski was inducted into the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications’ Hall of Achievement. Previously, Modzelewski led global client relations for the firm, and served as both President of the EMEA region and as General Manager of FleishmanHillard’s Chicago office.

Modzelewski received a Bachelor of Science degree in communications from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University. He attended Northwestern’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management, and has participated in the Omnicom Senior Management Program taught by Harvard Business School faculty members. He is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and The Chicago Club.

John Saunders to Succeed Dave Senay as FleishmanHillard CEO

St. Louis, Nov. 4, 2015 – John Saunders will succeed Dave Senay as FleishmanHillard’s president and chief executive officer, it was announced today by Dale Adams, chairman and CEO of the DAS Group of Companies, a division of FleishmanHillard’s parent company, Omnicom Group.

Saunders, 57, and a native of Dublin, Ireland, will begin his new duties effective today. He was most previously president for FleishmanHillard’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. He will reside in St. Louis, where the agency is headquartered.

“John Saunders emerged from a year-long leadership evaluation process and stood out in many respects,” Adams said. “He is a proven leader with a global perspective. He is a consummate public relations professional. He has helped grow and develop people and offices and a region during challenging times. He is an inspiring communicator and a natural collaborator and relationship-builder. In today’s ultra-connected world, he will help FleishmanHillard link its employees and clients with the many best-in-class companies that are part of the Omnicom/DAS network of companies,” Adams said.

Senay, who turns 60 this month, steps down after 32 years with the company and more than nine years as president and chief executive officer. He joined FleishmanHillard in March 1984, and was appointed president and chief executive officer in July 2006. He will remain with the firm as a consultant and to support the leadership transition.

“Dave served FleishmanHillard with distinction across a variety of roles before becoming only the third CEO in the firm’s history,” Adams said. “As CEO, he was ahead of the curve in recognizing the profound changes taking place in our industry and helping FleishmanHillard evolve to meet those challenges. Along the way, he became one of the industry’s most respected leaders.”

Specifically, Senay led the company’s adoption of a digital platform and a more integrated approach to communications. He also spearheaded the creation of “Ethics as Culture,” a program to promote ethical decision-making in public relations. FleishmanHillard later donated that program to the Council of Public Relations Firms (now called the PR Council), the industry’s leading trade group, for use by its member firms.

Senay served as chairman of the Council of Public Relations Firms for two terms. In 2014, PRWeek, the industry’s publication of record, named him PR Professional of the Year. That same year, the publication named FleishmanHillard as Global Agency of the Year.

Senay said: “To say it has been an honor to lead FleishmanHillard is a monumental understatement. From day one, it has been the people of FleishmanHillard who made the firm the gold standard for quality in the public relations industry. John will carry on a tradition of excellence that goes back to our founding in St. Louis in 1946.”

Saunders recently celebrated his 25th anniversary with FleishmanHillard. In 1990, he and FleishmanHillard founded FleishmanHillard Saunders, which grew to become Ireland’s number one public relations agency and one of the firm’s most successful offices. In 2004 he was appointed regional director for Europe, and in 2011 he was elevated to the role of regional president for EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa). Prior to his public relations career, he was staff journalist with Radio Telefis Eireann of Irish State broadcasting. He is a former president of ICCO, the global consortium of national public relations associations, and is a member of its Hall of Fame.

FleishmanHillard London and Fishburn to Merge

New top 10 UK agency to be called FleishmanHillard Fishburn

LONDON, Nov. 2, 2015 — FleishmanHillard London and Fishburn are to merge, creating a new top 10 London PR agency with over 200 staff, to be called FleishmanHillard Fishburn. It is anticipated that the merger will be formally finalized before the end of the year, with Fishburn’s employees due to move into Omnicom’s Bankside premises in the next two months, allowing the new agency to start 2016 as a fully merged entity.

Jim Donaldson, currently Managing Director of FleishmanHillard’s UK operations will become Chief Executive of the new agency, with Fishburn agency head Ali Gee as Deputy Chief Executive. Bristol based content agency Specialist will continue to operate as a separate unit of FleishmanHillard UK, reporting into Donaldson.

The merger will provide Fishburn’s clients with access to a world class international network whilst also enhancing FleishmanHillard’s Brand Marketing, Corporate and Public Affairs practices in London. Fishburn will also be adding its market leading Corporate Reporting offer to the mix.
