NAFE Names FleishmanHillard One of the 2018 “Top 10 Companies for Executive Women”

March 6, 2018

This is the Third Consecutive Year for the Agency in the Top 10, and Ninth Year on the List

NEW YORK, NY, March 6, 2018 – For the ninth consecutive year, and third year in the Top 10, FleishmanHillard has been named one of the 2018 NAFE Top Companies for Executive Women by the National Association for Female Executives. The list recognizes American corporations where women have significant clout to make the decisions that affect their company’s future and its bottom line. The NAFE Top 70 Companies, released today, is featured in the April/May issue of Working Mother.

“It has long been our commitment to actively support and create clear leadership and career pathing opportunities for women within our organization,” said John Saunders, FleishmanHillard president and CEO. “To consistently be recognized by NAFE as a leading company for female executive professionals in the U.S. is a great honor we celebrate in tribute to the women who contribute to the success of our organization.

“Every day, we strive to provide a workplace that champions diversity in all forms where everyone can advance and thrive as leaders. It’s essential for shaping the culture of the firm and ensuring our business success.”

The NAFE 2018 recognition highlights FleishmanHillard’s ongoing initiatives to promote and support women in leadership roles. Several examples of these efforts include:

  • Women being appointed to 8 of the 15 current seats on the company’s leadership cabinet.
  • Women holding half of the roles within the C-suite.
  • Women holding more than half of the regional leadership positions, including: president, APAC; president, Greater China; deputy CEO, FleishmanHillard Fishburn; president, U.S. South; and president, FleishmanHillard HighRoad.
  • Female leaders overseeing nearly half of FleishmanHillard’s global practice and sector groups, including the reputation management, brand marketing, research and analytics, and media relations practice groups; and the food, beverage and agribusiness, healthcare and technology sector groups.
  • Introduction of increased parental leave that resulted in turnover reduction of more than 10 percent across female employees at the mid-level.

Betty Spence, president of NAFE, says, “NAFE’s annual scrutiny of women’s progress at American companies offers essential data about the movement of women into top leadership in the private sector. In this first year of having five NAFE Top Companies with boards of 50 percent or more women, we point to a synergy between the greater presence of women on the board and an increase in the number of winning companies with women CEOs and with 50 percent plus women in the C-suite (10 companies).”

Subha V. Barry, senior vice president and managing director, Working Mother Media, says, “NAFE’s Top Companies shows us what progressive organizations are doing to ensure women’s advancement into executive positions. This year, noting increased enrollment and more companies with high scores, we decided to enlarge the list by 10. Areas such as number of female CEOs and promotions at every level illustrate improvement. However, while there is increased CEO engagement in making sure women have the best chance to become leaders, we also note there has also been a dip in key indicators like top earners, which needs to be addressed.”

The 2018 NAFE Top Companies application includes some 200 questions on female representation at all levels, especially the corporate officer and profit-and-loss ranks. The vetting process includes tracking access and usage of programs and policies that promote the advancement of women as well as the training and accountability of managers in relation to the number of women who advance. In order to be eligible for the NAFE Top Companies survey, entrants must have a minimum of 1,000 employees, two women on the Board of Directors and be a public or private company. NAFE also separately names the Top 10 companies in the nonprofit sector. The full report on this year’s winners are listed here.

FleishmanHillard Appoints New Global Managing Director, Brand Marketing

February 21, 2018

ST. LOUIS, February 21, 2018 – FleishmanHillard (FH) has appointed Candace Peterson to the role of global managing director, brand marketing, charged with the creative and activation needed to connect consumers with the brands they love on behalf of FH clients.

In her new role, Peterson will connect brand specialists across the global FH network to bring creative problem-solving, breakthrough ideas and trending marketing insights to clients on a real-time basis guided by the firm’s strength in social data analytics and research. This effort will use FleishmanHillard’s signature “Authenticity Gap” reputation research to analyze how well brand experience aligns with consumer expectations that drive purchase decisions.

Candace Peterson

“Candace is a rare talent whose experience reflects a fluency in marketing and creative disciplines not often found inside a public relations agency,” said J.J. Carter, FleishmanHillard chief operating officer and president, Americas. “She speaks the language of the CMO, and her unique understanding of how brands and companies can creatively connect to individual consumers, communities and the world will inspire our teams and our clients to blaze new trails.”

Peterson brings an award-winning background in advertising, creative and marketing to her new role following a career spanning more than 20 years working with powerhouse creative firms including Ogilvy & Mather, J. Walter Thompson and TracyLocke. She joined FleishmanHillard’s Dallas office in 2014 as executive creative director.

Peterson’s signature strength fuses the art of creative storytelling with the relationship rigor of reputation management that is foundational to FH and to public relations. In her new role, she will leverage the firm’s first-class social intelligence, planning and insights, and creative power to fuel marketing-driven clients and campaigns.

“I was drawn to FleishmanHillard because of its unique point of difference,” Peterson said. “One that understands both brand and reputation – and attracts clients who recognize brand sentiment is impacted by both sides of that equation.”

Peterson aims to cement FH’s position as the strategic and creative partner-of-choice by marketing-driven clients and partner agencies.

“Engaging customers is a fluid process that requires brands to constantly innovate and embrace the notion that brand loyalty is something that must be earned on a perpetual – even daily – basis,” Peterson said. “By leading with creative problem solving, we plan to unlock the power of brand loyalty.”

BEIJING, January 9, 2018 – FleishmanHillard today announced that Li Hong, former chairman and president of China for FleishmanHillard, senior consultant with the firm, is moving on after 16 years leading its mainland operations.

FleishmanHillard also announced two key appointments that will position the agency for further success in Greater China: Lichi Hsueh, currently head of the firm’s Shanghai operations, has been promoted to a new role of chief operating officer for FleishmanHillard in China. Yisi Liu, currently deputy GM in Shanghai, will become general manager of the Shanghai office.

Under Li Hong’s leadership, FleishmanHillard’s China business has flourished, boasting a stellar portfolio of Chinese and global clients, a deep talent bench and strong capabilities to meet the fast-evolving needs of China’s dynamic business and communications environment today.

“Li Hong’s contribution to the success of FleishmanHillard’s mainland operations was significant and pioneering in so many ways,” said Lynne Anne Davis, FleishmanHillard senior partner, Asia Pacific president. “His core belief to provide clients with progressive and innovative integrated services drove his approach to managing clients as well as developing teams. His ability to anticipate trends and his connections at the highest levels allowed FleishmanHillard to undertake some of the most innovative and memorable campaigns in China’s PR history.

Li Hong

“His lasting achievements are many: for example, he actively supported the firm’s Global China Practice when it was launched in 2012, helping to grow outbound business from China to the worldwide network to support the cross-border expansion of Chinese industry leaders. Today, many of our Chinese clients are global leaders and feature prominently on the Fortune 500, and we are proud to serve them.”

Li Hong’s tenure has been recognized with many awards including the Greater China Agency of the Year award from The Holmes Report in 2013.

“Over the past year, since Rachel Catanach’s appointment to president of Greater China, Li Hong has played an important advisory role, counselling clients at the senior-most level, mentoring top talent, and championing network collaboration and partnership for further expansion of the business. We wish him and his family all the best for this next chapter. He leaves with the deepest gratitude for the past 16 years of remarkable leadership, inspiration and achievement – and our infinite appreciation for taking that first step to build something bigger than himself that will carry on in his spirit,” commented Davis.

Lichi Hsueh, new chief operating officer for FleishmanHillard in China

Hsueh, FleishmanHillard’s managing director, client service in China and head of the Shanghai operations, has been promoted to a new role of chief operating officer for FleishmanHillard in China.

SINGAPORE, October 02, 2017 — Free A Girl’s “School for Justice” campaign has been recognized at this year’s Spikes Asia Festival of Creativity with three silver and a bronze Spikes award for the education program that helps take survivors of sex trafficking in India out of prostitution and into prosecution. It is aimed at getting taboo topics around child prostitution discussed openly in Indian society and amongst the media; thereby encouraging dialogue about the long-standing issue plaguing society.

The trophies add to a coveted D&AD Impact Black Pencil awarded earlier in the week for the same campaign.

The Spikes Asia awards include:

  • Silver Spike for Integrated Winner 2017
  • Silver Spike in the Promo & Activation and in the Direct category
  • Silver Spike in the Direct category
  • Bronze Spike for Use of Social Media

The “School for Justice” campaign, an education program in India, helps take survivors of sex trafficking out of prostitution and into prosecution. It is aimed at getting taboo topics around child prostitution discussed openly in Indian society and amongst the media; thereby encouraging dialogue about the long-standing issue plaguing society.

The agencies involved in the campaign are FleishmanHillard (FH) India – handling the PR and social media components of the campaign across India – and J. Walter Thompson (JWT) Amsterdam who developed the creative concept and responsible for the overall campaign.  The campaign started with a high profile launch event in Mumbai in April 2017 and has expanded into social media outreach, media relations and education events. From creating awareness about the burgeoning issue of sex trafficking through impactful media channels to building and managing the social media community for the campaign, FH undertook an integrated approach for the campaign by collaborating with the country’s leading counselors from the Supreme Court to garner support for “School for Justice”, in addition to encouraging and training the girls to embrace their confident selves as they faced the media and stepped towards a new life.

The campaign has proved very successful in highlighting the issue and has garnered endorsements from international organizations and high engagement with local audiences.

Overall, Free a Girl’s “School for Justice” has picked up a Gold Lion at Cannes 2017, a Gold South Asia SABRE 2017 and a Black Pencil at D&AD in New York earlier this month.
